Online Poker in the US

If you are looking for a fun and profitable online poker game, you have probably considered playing for real money. It’s estimated that over 15 million people play poker online for real money, which is nearly two percent of the adult population. The convenience of playing online means that you can play multiple tables at once – some sites even allow up to 40 tables at a time – a feature you won’t find offline. You can play a cash game, a tournament, or even holdem and omaha, so whatever your skill level, you can find a table that fits your style.

In the US, online poker is regulated at the state level. That means each state has the right to set their own rules and legislation for online poker, which is only valid within their state’s borders. As of right now, there is no federal law governing online poker in the US. It’s not surprising, however, that many states are considering making online poker legal. For example, Michigan has a huge online poker market, and offers the largest prize pools and online tournaments in the US. Pennsylvania, on the other hand, made online poker legal in 2017, and has since built a large industry around the legal online poker industry.

Despite the new law, it’s important to note that the history of online poker in the US is as old as its history abroad. It was the US that initially launched some of the first operators of online poker. In the 1990s, sites such as partypoker and Planet Poker offered their services to all players, regardless of where they lived. Both sites were initially operated without a US license, but this didn’t stop players from enjoying online poker.
